I misread the title as “decanter men” and honestly, I don’t mind either way.

I've accidentally only read female authors for the year so far, and now that I've noticed, I'm going to see how long I can keep it up!

This is great! A really clear guide. Back in the 90s, when I first became a feminist, I had this moment of realisation: most of the books in my bookshelf (or that I'd read elsewhere) were by or about men. So I decided I was only going to read about women or books written by women for a long time, to make up for that. It was great! Then when at uni, my area of scholarship focused on feminist artists and women composers and musicology. It's so rewarding to decentre men.

I don't remember the exact date or even why I decentered men in everything.

At some point I realized I had studied men through 16 years of education and realized that the pedagogy my degrees were based on was all done on men and boys. 🙀

I follow all of the above. I only read women, I only read stories about women, I only watch movies about women, I only watch movies directed by women. I listen to music only by women. I have focused on reading feminist books. I only talk about books written by women. Even here I am very careful about following men. Even if I like what he's saying you can find a women to follow who says it as well plus includes a women's perspective.

Even in the literature book I'm exploring I read men's comments and realize they fall short because they're men.

Training my husband has been fun because he eventually started picking up on it and will mention it before I do! 😹 Which is why I keep him.

Also ART! omo that alone is worth focusing solely on women.

Have you read Atwood’s The Testaments? I feel she did this very well.

I write about my own experiences as a man , simply because I understand men because I am one . I strive to have a better understanding of women because I really like them , I read books and articles regardless of gender . I read things that interest me . Mostly Engineering and physics . I get science magazines to read , I don’t usually bother to much about the sex of the author when I read the articles I just read them because they are interesting
